You will develop digital design and production skills using industry standard software packages including Adobe Photoshop, 3DS Max / Maya, After Effects, Unreal Engine / Unity and more. You will learn how to plan productions and then get hands on using industry standard software and equipment to produce original game levels, original game art, animations, original audio, videos and VFX. Samford is now offering a new Bachelor of Science in game design and 3D animation as a collaborative degree with the School of the Arts and the Department of Math and Computer Science of Howard College of Arts and Sciences.

You will gain an understanding of how the Computer Games, Animation and VFX industries operate, and the skills, knowledge and behaviours required to work within these exciting, rapidly growing, industries. This study programme encourages you to explore and develop your creative and technical skills, and knowledge.

The aim of the course is to prepare you for progression to a Level 3 course in Computer Games, Digital Design, Film and TV, or Computing. You will also gain experience in using Virtual Reality and motion capture. Throughout the course you will develop industry focused skills in Computer Game Design, Character Design, Game Engines, 3D Modelling, 3D Animation, VFX, Video Editing, and Sound Design. This course is the ideal first step for those who wish to work in the computer games (design or development), digital animation, or VFX industries. This is a fun and engaging class especially useful for students interested in animation in film and TV as well as games, and is suitable for students of any drawing ability.Make your ideas become a reality and create the games and visual effects that you would love to see and play. At the end of each week you will have an opportunity to try out some of the concepts from that week's lesson on characters of your own design. This course is the ideal first step for those who wish to work in the computer games (design or development), digital animation, or VFX industries. Each designer will take on two different design challenges on the fly and address the various issues in designing characters for games, such as movement, expression, and technical limitations.

#GAME DESIGN ANIMATION PROFESSIONAL#

Following a first week delving into some foundational concepts for successful character design, each of the remaining three weeks are structured as a master class where you will observe three professional character designers at work in the studio: Andy Ristaino (Adventure Time), Jacky Ke Jiang (Journey), and Robertryan Cory (SpongeBob SquarePants). In this course you will explore concepts and approaches involved in creating successful character designs that can be applied to video games.
